Omar Awning Co. began in 1986 as a result of a great need in the area for both residential and commercial awnings. Since the start of our company, we have expanded our business to include signs and graphics. Omar is a family-owned and operated business. It is owned by Ed and Susan Snowden who originally started the company. Son Bo Bennett serves as General Manager, son Billy Bennett as Operations Assistant and granddaughter Savannah Larkins as Office Manager. Son-in-law, Tim Young is the Graphic Design Manager and family friend, Gordon Bulla is the Production Manager.
Ed Snowden previously served for 8 years on the Board of Directors Professional Awning Manufacturing Association, and served as President of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Zone for 4 years. He is a certified Master Craftsman.
About Our Name
We have had so many people ask how we came up with a name like Omar. Let us tell you our story about Omar. When we started into the awning business we searched for unusual names. In Biblical times most people were tent makers by trade. Esau’s grandson was Omar, a tent maker. We thought it was perfectly fitting for a company that worked with canvas!
“I love this business more than anything I’ve ever done in my life,” says Ed. “It provides a great opportunity to create beautiful things and make friends.” Given his dedication to Omar’s success, it’s easy to appreciate his enthusiasm. His ability to escalate the firm to higher ground appears to be rooted deeply in the work ethic with which he was raised. “I learned from my dad to do things right the first time, and I don’t see any reason to do it any other way now.”
